We notice that when we turn any of the first three valves at this level, the needle moves counterclockwise 10 degrees. We look at the steam gauge and notice the markings and the position of the needle and different zones. The first three valves are open when we arrive here, but the fourth valve does not function while the elevator is at this level. We shall number these controls from left to right, 1, 2, 3 and 4. When we get into the elevator, we see four valves, each with a release cap to show that they are opened, and a steam gauge. Water is mixed with the hot air that is generated in the engine room and thus, steam is collected at the tank next to the elevator. We also can assume that water is being pumped into the system by means of a large conduit located on the outside. But, for now, we have steam being generated with these two elements in place. Without the fan on, or the lava flowing, this control cannot function. When we come to the elevator we notice that there is a large red wheel that allows steam to flow, but for some reason, we only see steam released through an escape valve, and not going anywhere else. Assuming all of this has been accomplished, we now are left with this puzzle of the steam elevator to solve. The piston that interlocks at the gate must also be raised to engage prior to the turbine activation.
The aftermath of this puzzle also requires that electricity has been enabled throughout the system (by aligning the circuit boards in the generator room) and that water is flowing over the turbine located next to the controls that switch the dam gate over. To begin this puzzle, the fan in the engine room must be turned-on and the lava must also be allowed into the engine room, as well. Voltaic Steam Elevator Solution The steam elevator on Voltaic is the major puzzle to besolved in order to complete the settings in this Age and return back to J'nanin (The Lesson Age).
